We used to get seriously bleak about missing out on the seriously good benefits of milk kefir… until we came across WATER kefir, and we realised that it’s seriously easy to make at home, and in way less time than kombucha! THEN we added our organic wild dried hibiscus African super-herb to the mix and BOOM!
But seriously… what IS kefir anyway? It is the strained liquid left behind during the fermentation process from a type of living organism known as ‘kefir grains’, which aren’t really grains but rather a form of SCOBY (an acronym for Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast). But they look like grains, as you can see from the picture. It was traditionally grown in organic full cream milk, as the bacteria feeds off the lactose and sugars. Consuming kefir is extremely good for gut health, as during the fermentation process, it leaves behind a rich variety of probiotics, yeast and enzymes – all great for the gut.
The only real difference between milk and water kefir is that water kefir is dairy free and a lighter beverage that can be more easily flavoured in a number of ways. Making water kefir provides a good space to PLAY more!

4 Tbsp Kefir Grains (available on the Faithful to Nature site)
2 Tbsp Rose Water
30g dried hibiscus flowers
